Eat your heart out, Roman Abramovich. Alfa Group co-founder Alexey Kuzmichev is the latest Russian billionaire to get into the mega-mansion game, paying $57.5 million for a 14,000-square-foot spread on the Upper East Side.

Kuzmichev closed on the first floor floors of Daniel Straus’ luxury Whitney Condos, at 33 East 74th Street, for $42 million last week. The 10,100-square-foot unit, known as the Atterbury Mansion, comes with five bedrooms and five bathrooms.

But Kuzmichev, whose net worth is estimated at $7.3 billion, didn’t stop there – buying an additional three-bedroom, 3,800-square-foot unit in an adjacent building for $15.5 million, according to the New York Post.

Kuzmichev plans to connect the two properties, following the lead of fellow Russian oligarch Abramovich – who has his own ambitious plans to merge three adjacent townhouses on East 75th Street, which he acquired for a combined $78 million, into a single, palatial home.

Healthcare entrepreneur Daniel Straus acquired 33 East 74th Street in a $95 million deal with the Whitney Museum of American Art for a collection of Upper East Side brownstones owned by the museum. Straus subsequently redeveloped the property into a 10-unit luxury condominium.

WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann and wife Rebekah Paltrow Neumann reportedly checked out a full-floor, 5,600-square-foot penthouse at the Whitney Condos priced at $39 million earlier this year. [NYP]Rey Mashayekhi
