From the special retail issue: Despite the country’s mall woes, retail real estate investment trusts have had a nice run over the past five years, and analysts say they still have plenty of juice.

The FTSE NAREIT Retail REIT index, which measures retail REITs’ performance, returned on average 14.9 percent annually in the five-year stretch that ended March 31. It beat eight of the nine other REIT types, including industrial, office, residential and mortgage REITs; self-storage REITs were the exception. [more]
