WATCH: Designs for the World Trade Center performing arts venue have been revealed

The center is one of the final pieces of the WTC redevelopment

Just days before the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, officials unveiled renderings for one of the last-remaining structures to be built at the World Trade Center redevelopment.

Designed by Brooklyn-based firm REX, the long-delayed Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center will take shape in the form of a giant glass cube encased in translucent marble. In all, the 90,000-square-foot venue will have three auditoria, as well as a cafe and public space in the lobby.

It was also revealed that Barbra Streisand will be the center’s chairperson.

“The performing arts connect us all and are such a vital part of New York City,” Streisand said in a statement. “The Perelman Center will vibrate with theater, music, dance, and film and bring life to this hallowed ground.” 

The Perelman is estimated to cost $243 million, and is due to open in 2020.
