You can always count on Robert Durst for a dose of crazy. The alleged murderer — who said on HBO’s “the Jinx,” “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course” — had his lawyers submit an eyebrow raising motion recently.

The defense team representing Durst in his latest murder trial over the death of Susan Berman will not be calling a key witness to the stand. Why? Apparently Durst, whose net-worth is significant, doesn’t want to shell out.

Michael Struk, a retired NYPD detective who investigated and cleared Durst for the disappearance of Durst’s first wife KathleenMcCormack, was asked to testify in July. But Durst’s defense is now refusing to pay for the man’s accommodations. Instead, they have suggested that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, which is funded by taxpayers, pay for Struk’s expenses, according to the Daily Mail. Those expenses include the business class seat for medical reasons, a ticket for his wife and money to board his dogs.

So what’s Durst thinking? Who knows, but maybe he thinks the witness won’t be so friendly. [DM]Christopher Cameron
