In 1879, real estate developer Arthur Benson built seven homes in Montauk: one for himself and one for each of his six very lucky friends. Built by McKim, Mead & White, the houses are considered key examples of American shingle-style architecture, and the area is a historic district, Behind the Hedges reported. This 3,800-square-foot home on 2.3 acres at 153 Deforest Road, which contains four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, was remodeled and expanded in 1992. East Hampton’s rental registry deemed a success by town officials
Two summers after adopting a rental registry to control short-term and overcrowded rentals, East Hampton’s town supervisor declared the program a “terrific success.” Homeowners can only have two rentals of 14 days or less within a six month period under the rule. “There’s no question in my mind that it was the right thing to do, and it’s working,” town supervisor Larry Cantrell told the East Hampton Star. Hearings end on plans for massive Southampton compound, decision expected soon
The Southampton Village Board of Architectural Review closed its hearings on a plan to build a 14,561-square-foot house and a 5,055-square-foot neighboring guest house at 28 and 24 Gin Lane respectively. A final decision could be made within a month. Some residents have objected to investor Scott Shleifer building the massive new compound in the village’s historic district, but an architectural consultant’s report concluded the buildings were “appropriate.” [27East]

Watermill home for sale on a street that’s for sale gets a price cut
Holly Lane, the street in Water Mill is for sale, and so is a gut-renovated home on it. The price of the street is holding steady at $2.5 million, but the house at 10 Holly Lane just got another price cut after two years on the market. Built in the 1990s, the 7,000-square-foot house with six bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms is now listed at $9.5 million, after a $500,000 reduction. Staff changes: new regional VP at Elliman, new Westhampton director for Corcoran
Douglas Elliman announced that Carl Benincasa will be the regional vice president of sales for the Hamptons. Benincasa had been an assistant town attorney for Southampton Town. The Corcoran Group, meanwhile, said Joseph Salvi, a real estate attorney, will be the managing director of its Southampton office. Corcoran also announced that Natalie Lewis, formerly of Elliman, signed on at its Westhampton Beach office. [27 East]

CNBC’s Quintanilla makes news with $3.2M purchase in Bridgehampton
Carl Quintanilla, of CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” and “Squawk Alley,” and his wife Judy Chung, bought a $3.2 million home in Bridgehampton’s Barn & Vine community. The newly built, 4,200-square-foot home boasts seven bedrooms, six bathrooms and a chef’s kitchen. The plot is .96 acres. Built by Chaloners of the Hamptons, the community offers its owners a concierge service that stocks the fridge, makes restaurant reservations and even does pick ups at the airport. “We’ll do anything for the homeowners that is legal,” Chaloner “Chal” Chute told the New York Post.
