One of New York’s most famous eyewear companies is giving up its iconic spot on the corner of West 14th Street and Sixth Avenue for a smaller place about two blocks away.

Moscot is moving its store from 69 West 14th Street to Stonehenge Partners’ 555 Sixth Avenue, according to Crain’s. The new space will be roughly 1,300 square feet, smaller than its current spot, and Moscot will lose its iconic yellow billboard featuring silhouettes of its frames in the move.

However, pedestrians will get a good view of the company’s products at its new location, as the shop will be located on the first floor with glass frontage. It is on the second floor in its current location.

The retailer lost its Orchard Avenue flagship store about five years ago after a residential developer bought the site but was able to replace it with a similar location across Delancey Street. Extell Development picked up the site at West 14th and Sixth Avenue for $50 million in 2016. Moscot also has locations in Chelsea Market and Cobble Hill.

Moscot has been increasing its online business in recent years, but Moscot eye care director Dr. Harvey Moscot told Crain’s that “good corner locations are still sought after and come with a premium cost, and I don’t think that’s ever going to change.” [Crain’s]Eddie Small
