Popular eatery inks a lease for 2,700 sf at Far West Side megaproject
Did you really think Hudson Yards wouldn’t have a Shake Shack?
The popular burger-and-fries chain signed a lease for roughly 2,700 square feet at the Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group’s Far West Side megaproject, according to property records filed with the city Thursday.
Representatives for Shake Shack and Related could not be immediately reached for comment.
Celebrity restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, which spun Shake Shack off into a public company in 2015, had been rumored to be in talks with Related about opening a 40,000-square-foot food hall at Hudson Yards. But the New York Post reported last year that talks had fallen apart, and celebrity chef José Andrés had taken over the space.
Related owns a stake in Meyer’s Union Square Events. Back when the developer built the Time Warner Center, Meyer balked at opening a restaurant in the project’s vertical mall.
Shake Shack will join other retail tenants like the British restaurant rhubarb, which plans to open a 5,800-square-foot restaurant at the mall and a 10,000-square-foot restaurant on the 92nd floor of the 30 Hudson Yards office tower.
Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group is moving its corporate offices to the southern end of Union Square Park.
