Investment giant AllianceBernstein is suing to kick two rent stabilized tenants out of the George Washington Hotel. The justification: they are allegedly hoarders, and “clutter, odors and extermination issues” make it harder to rent out nearby rooms.

The company bought the ground lease on the historic hotel at 23 Lexington Avenue for $100 million in 2016. Rooms now rent for up to $359 per night, the New York Post reported. The two tenants in question pay $200 per month in rent, a building employee told the paper.

One of the tenants’ apartment is filled with “piles of combustible materials including boxes, trash, plastic bags, fabrics and other materials haphazardly stacked to the ceiling throughout the room,” the suit alleges.

The Flatiron District hotel was home to poet W.H. Auden and novelist Christopher Isherwood in the 1930s. [NYP] — Konrad Putzier
