A long-vacant site on Third Avenue is getting a Morton Williams

Curated version of the supermarket should open this year at 1251 Third Avenue

An Upper East Side retail site that has sat vacant for more than two years will soon be the home of a Morton Williams.

A curated version of the supermarket is coming to 1251 Third Avenue, the former site of a Talbot’s, according to the New York Post. The grocery store chain has taken a deal for 13,000 square feet across two floors, and the asking rent was $2 million per year. Douglas Elliman’s Faith Hope Consolo represented the landlord.

The store should open this year, and construction on it has already started. Late last year, Morton Williams signed a lease at One West End Avenue for 29,400 square feet of space.

The Upper East Side has been hit particularly hard by retail’s struggles, with a recent analysis from The Real Deal finding that availability on Third and Madison Avenues was climbing faster than anywhere else in the city.  [NYP] – Eddie Small
