The television host and media entrepreneur’s West Village home is history.

Dan Abrams created the custom unit, which he’s listed for about $8.8 million, over more than a decade through purchasing and then combining two units in a townhouse that dates back to the 1830s, according to the Wall Street Journal. He said he was selling to move uptown to be close to his son’s school and work.

Abrams started renting the three-bedroom duplex on the upper two floors of the Greek Revival-style townhouse in 2004. He then bought the unit for just over $2 million in 2006 and, when an abutting duplex hit the market,  he bought the second property for about $1.6 million. He then combined the two units to make his 3,300-square-foot historical piecemeal home.

“I always loved the fact that there was real history there,” he told the Journal.

The house includes a private garden, four bedrooms and real wood-burning fireplaces. The listing agent is Cortnee Glasser of Sotheby’s International Realty. [WSJ]Erin Hudson
