An Upper East Side townhouse where Nancy Reagan and Prince Frederick of Denmark partied is on the market for nearly $9 million.

Owner John L. Loeb Jr., a businessman and former ambassador to Denmark, threw parties for many memorable guests at his brownstone at 237 East 61st Street, which he purchased for $200,000 in 1961.

Now, he and his wife are looking to sell, and have listed the home with John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens with an asking price of $8.9 million, according to the New York Times.

“I have mixed feelings about it,” Mr. Loeb said earlier this month on the day before his 88th birthday. “It’s just too much trouble to be managing a five-story house.”

The 5,640-square-foot home has seven bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms and an elevator. Revered decorator Sister Parish, who decorated the Kennedy White House, designed the townhouse’s interior in the early 1960s, and many of her touches remain.

“Sister Parish did my sister Ann’s home, who had married Edgar Bronfman, when they were living at 740 Park Avenue,” Loeb said. “And then she did the White House. So I thought she was all right to do mine.” [NYT] – Rich Bockmann
