Trump Org CFO subpoenaed in Cohen probe
Longtime executive may have played role in hush-money payments
Allen Weisselberg, CFO of the Trump Organization and a trustee of President Donald Trump’s personal trust, was subpoenaed in an ongoing federal criminal investigation of Michael Cohen.
Weisselberg is a witness in the probe of Trump’s former personal lawyer, though the precise date of his subpoena and cooperation was not known, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Federal prosecutors are known to be investigating Cohen’s private business dealings, including his arranging of a $130,000 hush-money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claims she had an affair with Trump before he was president. Weisselberg arranged for Cohen to be paid back via $35,000 retainer fees. But a source close to him told the Journal that the Trump Organization CFO did not have knowledge of what that money was ultimately for.
In a leaked recording of Cohen and Trump that emerged this week, Weisselberg is mentioned multiple times. In the recording, Trump and his lawyer are heard discussing plans to pay American Media Inc. to not publish the story of Karen McDougal — a former Playboy model — who also claimed she had an affair with the president.
