Everyone wants in on the real estate startup game.

“I don’t think there’s a whiteboard in San Francisco or the Valley right now that doesn’t have ‘real estate tech’ written on it,” said Ryan Simonetti, co-founder of office services startup Convene.

The Real Deal‘s cover story this month took a closer look at the sources of venture capital flooding into real estate tech companies and how this obsession will impact the industry at-large. Though real estate, on the whole, is slow to adopt new technology and hasn’t always been the first choice of venture investors, some fear that all this new cash could lead to oversaturation.

This month’s issue also continues TRD‘s series about diversity in the industry with a story about the underrepresentation of women in construction. Another story explores how political infighting has quashed efforts to reveal the identities of those hiding behind limited liability companies, which grants anonymity to the likes of terrorist organizations, kleptocrats and other corrupt officials.

Elsewhere in the issue, TRD details the complicated path to the latest sale of the Plaza Hotel to Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. And another story dives into why commercial brokerages are seeing such high turnover.
