This Brooklyn Heights whisper listing sold for $12M
The townhouse hadn’t changed hands since 1989
A Brooklyn Heights townhouse sold for $12 million in an off-market deal.
The buyer is Steven Eisenstadt, president and CEO of Cumberland Packing Corp., according to property records. The townhome at 218 Columbia Heights, which was shopped as whisper listing, was sold by the estate of banker Robert S. Rubin.
The building spans roughly 6,200 square feet and sits adjacent to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Rubin, who died earlier this year, bought the property for an undisclosed amount in 1989. He was an investment banker and philanthropist. As the chairman of the Brooklyn Museum, Rubin pushed back against Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s attempt to censor an exhibit he deemed pornographic and anti-Catholic.
Eisenstadt’s Cumberland Packing is a family-owned business. Its products include Sweet’N Low, Sugar in the Raw, Stevia and others.
The sale comes as a new portal seeks to create a marketplace for whisper listings. RealAgentz charges brokers a monthly fee for access off-market listings. The portal gets active listings from the Real Estate Board of New York‘s syndicated feed.
Earlier this year, actors Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany purchased an 8,000-square-foot townhouse in Brooklyn Heights for about $15.5 million. It was said to be one of the most expensive deals in the borough.
