Oscar-winning composer’s UES mansion sells for nearly half of asking price

The former Upper East Side mansion of Oscar-winning composer Franz Waxman was sold for nearly half of the asking price.

The 10,300-square-foot property, at 46 East 65th Street, changed hands in a $12 million deal. The asking price for the 102-year-old townhouse was $22.5 million when it was first listed in 2016.

The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home contains six wood-burning fireplaces, three terraces and three balconies. There’s also an elevator that goes to all six floors of the property. The home is currently split into three separate units, which means that it would have to be renovated to become a single-family mansion.

The buyer is gastroenterologist Shawn Khodadadian. Khodadadian was the signatory on the deed and the buyer entity had the same address as his clinic on Park Avenue. Khodadian acquired the home from the estate of landlord Rachel Mintz Golding. Golding was the head of a firm called Lloyd Realty Company, according to a 1964 article published in the New York Times. Her husband Jerome bought the property in 1967, property records show.

The building’s most famous resident wrote film scores for “Sunset Boulevard,” “The Bride of Frankenstein” and “Rear Window.” He was nominated for an Oscar 12 times and was the first person to ever win the award for best score in two consecutive years.
