PHOTOS: Brookfield celebrates retail division with annual ICSC bash
Company is on the verge of becoming the largest commercial landlord in NYC
Brookfield Property Partners, just one $6.8 billion deal away from becoming the city’s largest commercial landlord, celebrated the retail side of the its business Wednesday night with the company’s annual party coinciding with the ICSC shopping-centers convention.
Some of the biggest names in retail gathered at Brookfield’s Manhattan West megaproject, which sits just a few blocks away from where the site of International Council of Shopping Centers’s annual convention at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Top brokers like Newmark Knight Frank’s Jeffrey Roseman and Craig Slosberg, Richard Hodos and Ron Lubackin of CBRE, SCG Retail’s David Firestein and Ripco Real Estate’s Richard Skulnik were all in attendance.
RKF’s Karen Bellantoni was seen chatting it up with former colleague Beth Rosen, who left RKF earlier this year amid its merger with Newmark for Ripco. (RKF’s traditional blue signage had been transformed into Newmark-red logos at the ICSC show, symbolic of the companies’ merger this year.)
Michael Goldban, Brookfield’s head of retail leasing, mingled with brokers and retailers throughout the evening, talking up the company’s recent deals filling formerly empty storefronts on Greenwich Village’s Bleecker Street.
Earlier in the day, Brookfield Property Group chairman Ric Clark said the company was expecting to close on its $6.8 billion purchase of Forest City Realty Trust by the end of the week, and the deal would make Brookfield the largest commercial property owner in New York City.
In fact, it’s been a busy year for Brookfield on the acquisitions front. In July the company paid $14.8 billion to buy the remaining shares it didn’t already own in mall landlord GGP.
Former GGP CEO Sandeep Mathrani, now the chief executive of Brookfield Properties’ retail group, was in attendance rubbing shoulders with guests who included Nicole Kushner Meyer of Kushner Companies.
Brookfield on Wednesday announced that restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group plans to open a new restaurant at Manhattan West’s plaza.
