Anonymous buyer shells out $39M for 220 Central Park South condo

The sale is a $6M price cut from its original listing

A second anonymous buyer snapped up a pad at Vornado Realty Trust’s 220 Central Park South in recent months, as the limestone tower nears completion.

The residential condominium, named Villa 6 by the developer, was purchased for $39 million, according to property records filed this month. The buyer is an anonymous entity, 220 CPS VILLA 6 LLC, registered care of the New York law firm Federman Steifman LLP.

Representatives for Vornado and Federman Steifman could not be immediately reached for comment.

The tower, which will stand at 79 stories when completed, was designed by Robert A.M. Stern and developed by Steve Roth’s Vornado.

Vornado took a small price cut on the unit, which was initially listed for $45 million by Corcoran. The five-bedroom condominium on the sixth floor spans almost 5,000 square feet and has five bedrooms. At $39 million, the deal pencils out to around $7,800 a square foot.

Deborah Kern, who had the listing for Corcoran, declined to comment.

The new resident will join hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin who earlier this year paid $238 million for a 23,000-square-foot quadplex encompassing the 50th through 53rd floors, the highest amount ever paid for a home in the U.S. In addition to Griffin, other known condo owners in the building include Daniel Ochs, a hedge funder, and debt-collection executive Andrew Zaro.

In February, unit 35A, which spans 4,200-square-feet, sold for $33.5 million to another anonymous buyer, after a small price increase from $30 million.
