The unknown owner of two penthouses at 56 Leonard Street takes a loss on second penthouse sale

New York City’s residential real estate world last week saw the sale of a Trump Tower condominium owned by the widow of Tamir Sapir and the penthouse at 172 Madison Avenue hit the market asking a whopping $98 million. These are some other attention-grabbing deals made public last week.

1.) The mystery owner of two penthouses at 56 Leonard Street in Tribeca has sold the second — and larger — of his or her luxury pads for $25 million. The buyer of penthouse 53, which was listed at first for $35 million and measures 6,400 square feet, also was anonymous. The seller, South Shore Investments LLC, had closed on the penthouse for about $29 million in 2017. The buyer sold the 54th-floor penthouse to a different anonymous buyer for $19.6 million earlier this year, after shelling out about $24 million for that apartment. Compass had the listing for the most recent sale, which comes out to roughly $3,900 per square foot.

2.) Remember that massive townhouse at 15 Willow Street in Brooklyn Heights that recently closed for just under $9 million? It looks like the buyers of the 6,200-square-foot home are Joseph and Giovanna Gray Lockhart. Joe Lockhart was once press secretary to former President Bill Clinton and is now a podcast host and CNN analyst, and Giovanna Lockhart is an executive at the Wing, the women-focused co-working company. The sellers were Damian and Britt Zunino, who run the design firm Studio DB and who had acquired the home through an LLC in 2014 for about $4.8 million and renovated it. NestSeekers International’s Ryan Serhant and Bradley Mohr had the listing for the 15-room, 25-foot-wide mansion, which first went on the market in 2016 for $14.15 million. In a tweet, Serhant noted that the pair had five deals on the home that fell through.

3.) Andrew Rosen, the former CEO of contemporary clothing label Theory Inc., sold his full-floor penthouse at the Rudin Family’s 130 West 12th Street for $18.5 million (or about $4,800 per square foot), according to WWD. The buyer was financier Justin Korsant, the outlet reported. Rosen picked up the two-bedroom Greenwich Village apartment, which spans 3,875 square feet, five years ago for $13 million, then put it on the market last year for $21.5 million. Compass had the listing.
