City Connections agent dies after cyclist hit-and-run
The accident occurred near City Connection's 23rd Street office
Michael Collopy, a sales agent with City Connections Realty, died after being struck by a bicycle last week, the brokerage announced on Friday.
The hit-and-run occurred near City Connections’ office, at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 23rd Street. Collopy, 60, was knocked unconscious and died on Monday, according to a press release. (The city’s medical examiner has yet to determine the official cause of death.)
“Michael has been with City Connections Realty for the past 5 years,” the statement reads. “He was very generous, very smart and a very kind person in so many ways.”
City Connections will be honoring Collopy, a New York Yankees season ticket holder, at an upcoming Yankees game.
The New York Post reported on Wednesday that police were looking for the cyclist involved in the incident, but were unable to provide a description at the time.
The accident comes at a time when there’s been an increasing number of cyclist deaths; there’s been 18 deaths so far this year. Mayor Bill de Blasio last month announced a $58.4 million bike-lane safety plan, which calls for the installation of 30 miles of protected bike lanes.
