Veteran broker Peter Hennessy is joining Savills as a vice chairman.

Hennessy plans to focus on private-sector and government clients at his new firm, according to Crain’s. He had multiple notable government leasing deals earlier in his career, including one with the Human Resources Administration for about 400,000 square feet in 4 World Trade Center.

He has worked at multiple brokerages, including JLL, Cassidy Turley and Cushman & Wakefield. He clashed with executives at Cushman last year when they wanted to cut costs ahead of a public offering, and the company fired him soon after.

Until his no compete with Cushman expired earlier this year, he spent time helping nonprofits with real estate services.

“I like being at a medium-size firm,” he told Crain’s of his new role at Savills. “The big companies are mired in the bureaucracy that stifles doing really good client work. They have too much structure and not enough entrepreneurial spirit.” [Crain’s— Eddie Small
