The firm will offer a third-party brokerage and property management

UPDATED, Jan. 17, 2020, 4:49 p.m.: Charney Construction and Development is reinventing itself.

The firm, led by Sam Charney, is launching an in-house residential and commercial brokerage as well as a property management team. The businesses will now all operate under Charney Companies, according to a spokesperson.

Charney hired Andrew Steiker-Epstein from Compass, who will lead the brokerage division, and several other agents from Compass  and Cushman & Wakefield, Commercial Observer reported. The firm has also brought on brokers with expertise in Chinese, Long Island City and the Flushing market.

Charney is also expanding to offer third-party brokerage services for commercial landlords, tenants and residential owners.

“We already do it on the development side, because we’re developing to achieve the highest prices per square foot on [the] rental or sales prices, and it was a natural progression to take that to third-party brokerage,” said Charney.

While the firm hopes to broaden its service offerings, Charney is still developing a 48-story residential condo building at 45-03 23rd Street in Long Island City, and the Dime in South Williamsburg with Tavros Capital Partners. Charney is also planning a 200-unit residential project at 585 Union Street in Gowanus, which is set for a neighborhood rezoning.
