Mary Ann Tighe named REBNY chair

The Real Estate Board of New York named Mary Ann Tighe, CEO of the tri-state region of CB Richard Ellis, as its new board chairperson today. Steven Spinola, president of REBNY, said in a press release that Tighe is “among the most influential members of our real estate community,” noting her knowledge of both commercial and residential markets.

Tighe said she was enthusiastic about the post but also aware of the financial challenges that face her industry.

“These past three years have been challenging to say the least,” Tighe said. “REBNY played a major role in the creation and passage of many important federal programs, such as TARP and TALF, that will help the industry get through this terrible recession and emerge stronger.”

Tighe’s appointment marks the first time in REBNY’s 113-year history that a woman will lead the organization. Since beginning her career, Tighe has represented over 73 million square feet of leased space. Notable deals in her career include managing Conde Nast’s move to Times Square and the New York Times’ move to Eighth Avenue. Prior to her career in real estate, Tighe served as vice president of the American Broadcast Companies, during which time she launched the A&E cable channel, and served as deputy chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
