Edwardian Room at Plaza repurposed as retail space

Menswear designer Angelo Galasso has leased the landmarked Edwardian Room at The Plaza Hotel to use as retail space, according to a statement from the tenant’s broker received today.

The Italian fashion brand signed a 12-year lease for the 4,720-square-foot space last month, representatives for Crown Retail Services, who brokered the lease on behalf of the tenant, said.

The space, which features 50 feet of frontage on Fifth Avenue and 70 feet on Central Park South, was previously used as a private event space by The Plaza.

The retail space at The Plaza had some trouble retaining tenants after the hotel reopened in 2008 following a $400 million renovation.

This store will be Angelo Galasso’s first in the U.S. and is slated to open at the end of February.

Richard Chera and Jordan Barker of Crown represented Angelo Galasso, and Kristin Franzese, executive vice president for Elad Group, represented the landlord in-house.

“We are very excited to bring together two modern classics in one of the market’s most unique retail deals,” Barker said. — Guelda Voien
