Broken Angel home given reprieve from foreclosure

Clinton Hill’s Broken Angel home is getting one more chance, the New York Times reported.

The home, at 4 Downing Street, has been given a reprieve of one more month, after a judge agreed to consider a related fraud case brought by owner Arthur Wood against his lender, Madison Realty Capital. Madison lent funds to Wood and business partner Shahn Anderson in 2006 to repair the building after a fire revealed a number of building code violations, the paper said.

The eccentric home was created by Wood, an artist, starting in 1972, and has become a local fixture, however, the lender began foreclosure proceedings against Wood in 2008.

The Brooklyn Supreme Court judge said she would rule on Wood’s case in the next 30 to 60 days. Wood was optimistic that he would prevail, the paper said. [NYT]
