Celeb chef Michael Symon buys Soho penthouse

A prime Soho property has changed hands from one restaurateur to another. “Meat-centric” celebrity chef Michael Symon has picked up London restaurateur and theater investor Laurence Isaacson’s blue-themed penthouse at 210 Lafayette Street, according to public records filed with the city today.

Symon, the award-winning American “Iron Chef” and Food Network regular credited with reinventing the Downtown Cleveland restaurant scene, bought the 1,509-square-foot, two bedroom unit with his wife Elizabeth for $3.05 million, public records show. The terraced penthouse comes with a semi-private elevator, a small air-conditioned wet bar and a fully-landscaped outdoor space with an irrigation system and a waterfall, according to the listing by the Corcoran Group’s Ernie Goldberg and James Morgan. The brokers were not immediately available to comment on the sale.

Isaacson, who purchased 210 Lafayette Street at the corner of Crosby Street in 2006 for $2.6 million, decorated the unit in somewhat of an eccentric style – with cobalt blue accents. The unit has a blue chandelier, for instance. Previous new reports suggested he was selling the unit in an effort to reduce his vast property portfolio, which includes a property at 30 Crosby Street.

Isaacson, who failed to find a buyer for the 30 Crosby Street unit last year and ultimately delisted it, previously called owning two properties on the same block “self-indulgent.”

Neither Symon nor Isaacson could immediately be reached for comment.
