Judge to Diane Wells: be a better neighbor

A Manhattan Supreme Court has ruled that Diane Wells, a transgender ex-convict who resides at the Eldorado on Central Park West, must be more considerate of her neighbors, the New York Post reported. Wells, who was not present at the hearing, was ordered to install two air purifiers inside her home and must allow a repair crew to come fix a gaping wall hole that brings tobacco smoke into neighboring units.

Natalie Elsberg, a neighbor of Wells, said at the hearing that the smell of Wells’ smoke has made her apartment unlivable. “The smell of smoke is very thick,” she said at the hearing, “and you can see it, as almost a cloud.”
She’s had to get air purifiers, turn on the air conditioners and open the windows to help her children breathe, the Post said.

As The Real Deal previously reported, Wells in 2006 was convicted of assaulting her mother, Constance Joyce Cheney, a South African heiress. Wells served 60 days in prison. She also has allegedly failed to pay her maintenance for a significant period of time — as of this month, she allegedly owes the apartment corporation nearly $20,000. [Post]
