The long-vacant lot at 32 West 29th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue will soon be filled by a 21-story hotel, records filed with the Department of Buildings show.

Yesterday, the DOB approved a new building permit for the lot, allowing Cava Construction, a Mount Vernon, N.Y.-based construction firm, to begin building the structure the same day.

The permit was reissued after work was approved on the site in March 2008, city records show. It is unclear what construction, if any, took place between 2008 and now. Additional details on the developer and their plans were also not immediately available.

The lot was most recently sold in June 2008 for $15.05 million to an LLC identified as 32-34 West 29th Street Realty. The 4,251-square-foot parcel was at one point listed for $15 million with Laurence Ross and Lou Corti at Besen & Associates. The lot was described in the listing as a parking lot to be delivered as a hotel development site.

The blocks surrounding the lot have become a hotspot for luxury hotels. In the past few years, the 168-room Nomad Hotel opened at 1170 Broadway and West 28th Street to much fanfare, as did the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street and Broadway. The Beatrice is also just down the street at 105 West 29th Street and Sixth Avenue.

Cava Construction, Bresen and 32-34 West 29th Street Realty did not respond to requests for comment.
