The High Line-esque QueensWay project will cost $122 million to construct and design, according to a study released today by local nonprofit groups the Trust for Public Land and Friends of the QueensWay.

The 3.5-mile park on an abandoned railway would run from Rego Park to Ozone Park in Queens. The Trust for Public Land has raised $1.2 million for the project so far. Of the total, $467,000 is state park funding.  The city owns the 47-acre rail line.

Adrian Benepe, director at Trust for Public Land and a former city parks commissioner, said the QueensWay is “like the High Line on steroids.”

WXY Architecture & Urban Design and DlandStudio Architecture & Landscape Architecture jointly devised the design plan. City Hall and the city’s parks and transportation departments have yet to show support for the project, however.

“We look forward to continuing conversations with stakeholders about the future of this asset,” Wiley Norvell, a spokesperson for Mayor Bill de Blasio, told the New York Times. [NYT]Mark Maurer
