Mayor Bill de Blasio is looking to rezone west Flushing.

The Queens neighborhood is the third that’s targeted by the city for mandatory inclusionary zoning, as the de Blasio administration continues its goal to increase the amount of affordable housing in the city, according to Capital New York.

In total, the city is looking to upzone 15 neighborhoods to allow for the construction of bigger and taller residential developments. In turn, developers will be required to set aside a portion of the units for affordable housing.

A broader study on mandatory inclusionary housing will be completed by next fall, city officials told the website.

Vicki Been, commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, has said that she is planning to make changes that spur the development of affordable housing.

So far, the de Blasio administration has closed on the creation or preservation of 10,846 affordable units. The mayor’s goal is to create or preserve 200,000 units over the coming decade.  [Capital NY] — Claire Moses
