Canadian apparel shop Roots has signed a lease with GGP on space along the Magnificent Mile.

Roots last month inked a deal with GGP for 11,000 square feet for a two-story shop next to Sephora at 605 North Michigan Avenue, The Real Deal has learned. Annual rent will be $1.85 million, or nearly $170 per square foot, sources said.

The first Chicago location for Roots will take over the old Aldo shoe store on the first floor and part of the old Guess space on the second.

The move comes as Roots embarks on an expansion that is expected add 10 to 14 new American stores by the end of 2019. As of October, Roots had 116 stores in Canada and four in the United States, along with 138 partner-operated stores in Asia.

A spokesperson for Roots on Monday declined comment on the Chicago lease.
