R2 Companies is bringing an artisan rug store to one of its properties in the Fulton Market, sources told The Real Deal.

The developer signed Tufenkian Carpets to a 1,900-square-foot ground-floor space at
802 West Washington Street in the West Loop. Tufenkian will be moving from its current location in Merchandise Mart.

It would sit at the base of R2’s 14,000 square-foot office and retail complex at Halsted and Washington, which is anchored by a BMO Harris Bank.

R2’s leasing director Matt Duhig said renovations are underway in preparation for the official store opening, which is slated to happen in the “next few months.”

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Representatives for Tufenkian declined to comment. The company lists locations in six American cities, plus London and Antwerp.

The West Loop has seen a frenzy of new retail and office construction, most notably in the Fulton Market district, where developers like Sterling Bay, Thor Equities and Mark Goodman have been racing to make their marks.
