Acorn Property Management has inked Anthony Michael Interior Design to anchor an old warehouse on the Near West Side.

The 35-year-old design firm is expanding from its current location in Lakeview to Acorn’s 5,000-square-foot space in the old Revere Electric Supply building, 2501 West Washington Boulevard.

Acorn bought the building from Revere in February 2015 for $2.45 million, taking out a $3.45 million mortgage from Libertyville Bank and Trust.

Terms of the Anthony Michael lease were not released, but listings for the building show asking rents of $12 to $15 per square foot.

On July 1, the design firm takes possession of the space, which Michael is designing himself. The new facility will house more than 30 employees.

The building is a few blocks from where a developer earlier this month secured a permit for the city for a 42-unit residential building at 2223 West Madison Street.

The area west of Fulton Market has earned the “Makers District” nickname for its concentration of distillers, brewers, coffee roasters, clothing manufacturers and shared workspaces, according to Crain’s.

Acorn lists more than 100 properties across Chicago in its portfolio, including multifamily, office, retail and light industrial.
