One of priciest listings in Chicago hits the open market

The second most expensive listing in Chicago finally hit the MLS after five months as a pocket listing. The 130-year-old Thompson House at Dearborn Street and Delaware Place in the Gold Coast has an asking price of $21.9 million. The six-bedroom, 6½-bath mansion is eclipsed only by Lincoln Park’s Parrillo mansion, which is listed at $50 million. [Curbed]

Man in custody after fire levels Dwyane Wade’s former mansion

Authorities had a person in custody in connection with a possible arson fire that destroyed the former south suburban mansion of NBA star Dwyane Wade. The fire erupted around 1:15 p.m. Monday and “completely leveled” the six-bedroom mansion on a secluded stretch of 158th Street in Dolton. No one was injured, and man seen leaving the scene after an apparent explosion was taken into custody a few blocks away. [Daily Southtown]

Old Town School selling Lincoln Park location

The Old Town School of Folk Music is putting its Lincoln Park building on the market, with plans to use proceeds from the sale to start an endowment fund. The building at 909 West Armitage Avenue was the school’s main campus until it moved to Lincoln Square 20 years ago. No listing price has been determined for the 9,000-square-foot property, but a building across the street recently sold for $4 million. [Crain’s]

Amazon is opening yet another cashier-less grab-and-go store in Chicago. The 2,000-square-foot location set to open in the Illinois Center next year is the fourth announced in Chicago since last month. Two stores already have opened in the Loop and another is planned near the Ogilvie Transportation Center. [Chicago Tribune]

Paragon pitching project on part of Libertyville Sports Complex

Paragon Development Partners wants to redevelop part of the Libertyville Sports Complex into a mix of industrial and retail uses. Officials in June sold 30 acres of the property for $5.8 million to the developer, which envisions 313,000 square feet of industrial space along with a 3.6-acre retail portion that might house a gas station and car wash. Obama library neighbors pushing anti-displacement measures

Woodlawn residents are pushing a plan they say will protect their homes from any gentrification that might result from the nearby Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park. A community group is trying to get a petition on the February ballot to gauge support for an anti-displacement ordinance, which would include provisions freezing property taxes for longtime residents and ensuring the construction of affordable housing.
