Medical IT company moving headquarters to O’Hare office market with new lease

Bucking the trend of firms relocating Downtown, Intelligent Medical Objects is moving from one suburb to another

Intelligent Medical Objects is moving its corporate headquarters, but unlike many other suburban companies in recent year, it’s not heading Downtown.

The company, which specializes in healthcare information technology, is moving from Northbrook to a 43,000-square-foot in Higgins Development’s O’Hare Gateway Office Center at 9600 West Bryn Mawr Road in Rosemont, according to Savills Studley, which represented the tenant in the lease signing.

The company will move from its current offices at 60 Revere Drive in Northbrook in the second quarter. With the move, the company is growing its office footprint by 30 percent. The company also has an office Downtown.

The company will be the first new tenant in its building within the Gateway complex, which just underwent an extensive renovation, according to Savills Studley. Renovations included a dining center, a fitness center and outdoor seating space.

Intelligent Medical Objects President Dan Watanapongse said in a statement the move will help his company attract new talent and allow the offices to be more centrally located.

While overall suburban office vacancy increased last year, the O’Hare submarket has largely bucked that trend. The O’Hare office market has also been popular with investors. Angelo Gordon last year bought the Presidents Plaza complex for $148 million, and Bridge Investment Group bought a nearby office building for $64 million.

“The corporate flight from the suburbs to Downtown has been much discussed, but we are also seeing companies supporting dual locations, leveraging both for greater client and workforce success,” Jon Azulay of Savills Studley said in a statement.

Azulay, Robert Sevim and Adam Southard of Savills Studley represented Intelligent Medical Objects. Dan Svachula and Jim Ward of Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord in the deal.

Chicago-based Higgins Development completed the O’Hare Gateway complex in 2001. It includes two buildings totaling more than 350,000 square feet.
