Personal injury attorney Paul Powell is the latest buyer of a pricey condo at No. 9 Walton, joining a roster of owners that features a number of local sports figures, business executives and other notable Chicagoans.

Powell, of Chicago, paid $5 million for a 17th-floor unit in JDL Development’s luxury Gold Coast tower at 9 West Walton Street, according to Cook County records.

Bruce Glazer of @properties represented Powell in the deal.

Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty’s Nancy Tassone, who is the exclusive broker at No. 9, represented JDL in the sale.

Powell’s purchase comes on the heels of news that Blackhawks star Patrick Kane was joining teammate and friend Jonathan Toews in buying units in the tower.

The building has dominated the list of most expensive residential sales since late 2017, when hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin broke the record for residential purchases with the $59 million pickup of the tower’s top four floors. An unidentified buyer last month spent $11.3 million on a 31st-floor unit.
