Sears closing in Oak Brook

The Sears store in Oakbrook Center is closing Sunday, about seven months after it reopened after a more than year-long remodeling. The holding company that now owns Sears said it decided not to continue with the lease for the unprofitable store. After the remodeling, the 62,000-square-foot Oakbrook Center store was entirely on the lower level and about one-third the size of the original store at the mall. The closure will leave Oak Brook without a Sears for the first time in 60 years. [The Doings]

Stanley’s produce market closes near Lincoln Yards

A popular family-owned produce market in the shadow of the proposed Lincoln Yards project closed after five decades. The owners of Stanley’s Fresh Fruit & Vegetables last year hired CBRE to market the property at 1558 North Elston Avenue. CBRE’s Keely Polczynski said the building remains for sale, but the business has closed because the owners “saw the writing on the wall” of the impending impact from Lincoln Yards. [Crain’s]

AMC could spin off one-third of Rosemont theater complex

Movie theater chain AMC is considering closing six of its 18 screens in the Rosemont entertainment district and finding a new use for the space. The theater sits in the 200,000-square-foot Parkway Bank Park entertainment and dining district where a new 20,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson dealership is under construction and a 6,000-square-foot Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar is planned. AMC is considering “several potential end users” for the redeveloped space, Mayor Brad Stephens said. [Daily Herald]
