Lendlease, the Australian construction giant that has been among the most active firms in Chicago — particularly in the South and West loops — has a new head of operations.

Ted Weldon was promoted to executive general manager of development for Chicago, according to Crain’s. The move comes as Thomas Weeks vacates that role, leaving for New York-based Rockefeller Group, where he will become executive vice president and head of development.

Weldon and Weeks have been partners and colleagues for four decades across different ventures, according to the report.

Lendlease ranked fourth on The Real Deal’s ranking of top construction firms in Chicago with nearly 900,000 square feet of projects over the last year.

There are a number of large-scale developments the company now has in progress in the city.

Those include a partnership with Chicago’s Magellan Development Group, which is set to break ground Sept. 17, on a 363-unit condo tower and a 503-unit apartment building in Lakeshore East.

Lendlease will also partner with John Buck to build 845 West Madison, a 586-unit apt building open next summer in West Loop. [Crain’s] — Sarah Paynter
