Ex-Cubs pitcher lists 5-bedroom home, hoping buyer will post a lot of zeros

The home of a former Chicago Cubs pitcher hit the market last week with an asking price of $2.5 million, which is slightly more than what he paid for it in 2015.

Jason Hammel, who played major league baseball for 12 years, from 2006-2018, is selling his five-bedroom, 5,350-square-foot home, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The brick and limestone home also features six bathrooms, two fireplaces, designer lighting and custom window treatments. The master bedroom includes an ensuite with a dual vanity, two-headed shower and two walk-in closets. The kitchen is equipped with Sub-Zero, Wolf and Bosch appliances, as well as a pantry closet, butler’s pantry and wine refrigerator.

The home also has a top-floor media room with a wet bar and a rec room and private office located on the lower level. Outside, there is also a partially covered roof deck with a fireplace. The outdoor patio is heated from beneath.

One of the biggest draws of the home is the location, the listing agent at Engel & Volkers Chicago said. The home is located on a corner lot that provides a lot of natural light and allows for a garage that opens onto the street and not an alley.

Hammel purchased the home in 2015 — the same year it was built — for $2.38 million. The 2020 property tax bill on the home was $45,137.

Hammel played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Orioles and other teams, but he is most well known for playing for the Cubs during the 2016 World Series, which the team won.

The home is located within walking distance of Wrigley Field as well as the Southport Corridor, Blaine Elementary School and Juniper Park.

Another former Cubs pitcher, Jon Lester, is also selling his nearby home in the Graceland West neighborhood for about $6 million.
