A health care firm signed a lease in Chicago’s Old Post Office building, a move that will cut Uber’s footprint in the building by more than 20 percent.
Vizient, a Texas health care management consultant firm, agreed to lease about 112,000 square feet on the eighth floor of the recently renovated building at 433 West Van Buren Street, Crain’s reported. Vizient will consolidate local offices in the West Loop and suburban Skokie into one central office.
The firmleases about 150,000 square feet of combined office space at 155 North Wacker Drive and 525 Old Orchard Road after previous mergers and acquisitions. Vizient plans a hybrid work environment in which employees can work from home or the office, and the firm’s Colleen Risk said it hopes the downtown location will help bring in and retain more workers.
At least some of the space Vizient will lease was previously included within Uber’s lease. Uber planned to use the Old Post Office building as the headquarters for Uber Freight and agreed to anchor the property with a lease of 460,000 square feet. Uber almost immediately put a small piece of that space up for sublease, and then more than doubled it to about 150,000 square feet.
Almost 100,000 square feet of Vizient’s space came from Uber and what’s left includes previously unleased space in the southwest corner of a “pylon” that overlooks the building’s rooftop.
As of last month, the Old Post Office building was more than 90 percent leased.
