NYC’s top architects by borough

To figure out which firms have been dominating the architecture world over the past decade, The Real Deal ranked the top performing architects in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx by square footage of projects between 2008 and 2018. Skidmore Owings & Merrill snagged the top spot in Manhattan with 32.2 million square feet of projects in the borough. In Brooklyn, Perkins Eastman led the pack with 11.9 million square feet. SLCE Architects — the firm that ranked No. 1 in TRD’s analysis of busiest shops by TCOs granted in 2018 — reigned supreme in Queens with 9.9 million square feet of projects. Last but not least, Dattner Architects took the top spot in the Bronx with 5 million square feet across 28 projects.

Source: First published in March 2019 on TheRealDeal.com. TRD analysis of all NYC projects pre-filed with the Dept. of Buildings between Jan. 1, 2008 and Jan. 31, 2018 that received their first TCOs in 2018. We considered all new building filings of 5,000 sq. ft. and up, as well as A1 (major alterations) filings for projects that doubled a building’s size to at least 100,000 sq. ft. Infrastructure projects were not included in the ranking. Project totals were shared with firms for confirmation and additional data. Not all firms participated.
