THE FIVE PRICIEST RESIDENTIAL SALES IN L.A. COUNTY LAST YEAR totaled $448 million, just edging out the $438.8 million total for 2019.

But the 2020 tally was propped up by two monster deals. Jeff Bezos paid media mogul David Geffen $165 million for a massive 13,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills in February, the most expensive single-family home buy in California history.

Then in August, Jeffrey Katzenberg sold his palatial Beverly Hills estate for $125 million to a shell company that Variety reported is owned by Jan Koum, co-founder of WhatsApp.
