The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have struck a deal with Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger under which Iger would lead their bid to build a massive new football stadium in Carson, Calif., CBS Sports reported.

Iger’s bid is in competition with another by Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who wants to build a different stadium in Inglewood.

Both parties are slated to present their proposals in New York Wednesday to the National Football League’s Committee on Los Angeles Opportunities. A final decision on which, if either, project will proceed is expected in January.

Under the terms of Iger’s deal, which is contingent upon construction permit approvals, the businessman would serve as the non-executive chairman of Carson Holdings, LLC and oversee the design, naming rights and construction of the facility. He would tap a president to handle the day-to-day business of the venture.

Iger’s contract with Disney, which owns ESPN, expires in 2018, three years before the ESPN’s deal for the rights to broadcast Monday Night Football expires, preventing any conflicts of interest. [CBS Sports] — Katherine Clarke
