WeHo planning commission rejects project by “double-dipping” developer

The West Hollywood Planning Commission shot down a mixed-use project last week that would have brought 30 units and 9,700 square feet of retail to the corner of Beverly Boulevard and Sherbourne Drive.

The commissioners voted unanimously against the project by developer Arash Danialifar, citing concerns about it being out-of-scale with the rest of the neighborhood, WeHoville reported.

The commission also took issue with the number of exemptions to the zoning code requested by Danialifar, such as a waiver to the required 25-foot setback.

“They’re double dipping here,” said Commissioner Shelia Lightfoot. “If we allow this here, you mark my words, every halfway aggressive developer that comes in these mixed-used zones is going to be doing the same thing.”

Residents also showed up to voice their opposition, lamenting the potential noise from the rooftop deck and saying the the structure could block sunlight to their units.

The site at 8713 Beverly Boulevard currently houses the Peppermint Club, a nightclub and lounge. The project, which was to be designed by Lorcan O’Herlihy, called for two five-story buildings totaling 41,000 square feet. [WeHoville] — Cathaleen Chen
