Steven Spielberg has a project in South Los Angeles, but it’s not a film.

Okay, and it’s not that Steven Spielberg either — it’s Steven Spielberg of EAH Housing, an affordable housing nonprofit based in California and Hawaii.

EAH wants to build a 50-unit affordable housing complex in South Los Angeles, city documents show. The project at 7600 S. Vermont Avenue would be 100 percent affordable and would contain a mixed-use element, according to the planning application filed by Spielberg last week.

The site in Vermont Knolls is occupied by a one-story commercial structure, which would razed for the development. Records link the property to the Christian Landlord Association Serving Society, a property management firm located next to the project site.

EAH has acquired or worked on over 7,000 units of affordable housing in California and Hawaii since 1968, according to its website.

Neither Spielberg nor the Christian Landlord Association could be immediately reached for comment.

New community plans for South L.A. and Southeast L.A. are currently in the works. The City Planning Commission voted late last month to move forward with updating the plans to encourage transit-oriented development along commercial corridors.
