Mitch Englander proposes industrial core within Chatsworth and Northridge
Council member Mitch Englander wants to protect the tight industrial market in the San Fernando Valley.
Englander proposed a motion on Friday to create an industrial core within Chatsworth and Northridge, limiting other types of development within its boundaries. It would be called the Innov818 district, or Chatsworth-Northridge Industrial Core.
The areas have been known as center for aerospace and other technology industries capable of accommodating high-tech, clean-tech, green-tech and bio-tech businesses, Urbanize reported.
Englander said in his motion that he wants to ensure that the necessary land use policies are enforced to preserve the area as a light industrial hub, since redevelopment efforts could allow non-industrial uses in the core and remove high-paying jobs.
The proposed industrial district is a 2.5-square-mile area bounded by Lassen Street, Mason Avenue, Plummer Street, Cobin Avenue, Nordhoff Street and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to Urbanize.
