Shop owners file claims against Port of LA over $100M development

The $100 million San Pedro Public Market project is moving forward — but not everyone is pleased.

Roughly 15 shop owners filed claims with the Los Angeles City clerk against the Port of Los Angeles after an amended eviction notice forced them out, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported.

The original eviction stated the waterfront shops would be relocated during the second phase of construction of the attraction, but recent changes to the developer’s phasing plans now demands they vacate by Oct. 2.

Port officials repeatedly told the tenants about the new phasing plan and planned summer 2017 eviction, spokesman Phillip Sanfield told the Business Journal.

The family-owned shops including Figments, the Purple Store and Botanica are being forced to shut down for the waterfront redevelopment project, which is slated to open in 2020.

Ratkovich Co. and Jericho Development are jointly developing the 300,000-square-foot commercial site. It first received approval in 2009. [LABJ] – Natalie Hoberman
