MatchesFashion.com founders buy Trousdale Estates home for $24M

Let’s hope they have plenty of closet space.

Tom and Ruth Chapman, the British founders of online shopping merchandiser MatchesFashion.com, dropped $24 million on a sprawling compound in the wealthy Trousdale Estates area of Beverly Hills.

The property sold 13 percent below its $27 million June asking price, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The couple sold a majority stake in their company to Apax Partners in September in a deal that reportedly valued the e-tailer at $1 billion.

Following a four-year long renovation, the modern-looking property includes five bedrooms and seven bathrooms over 6,230 square feet of living space. Amenities at the sprawling, one-story pad include an expansive swimming pool and jacuzzi, outdoor lounge area, media room and views spanning from Downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

Billionaire heir Kevin Washington, son of Montana businessman Dennis Washington, was the seller. He purchased the home in 2012 for nearly $10 million, property records show.

Branden and Rayni Williams of Hilton and Hyland had the listing. Dena Luciano of Douglas Elliman represented the Chapmans.

The Chapmans are co-founders and former executives of Matches Fashion, which sells designer-brand clothing to online shoppers in more than 170 countries, according to its website. [WSJ] – Natalie Hoberman
