A developer of senior living housing is planning 185-unit senior apartment building near the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, making it one of the largest projects of its kind in the city in years.

Scottsdale, Arizona-based Wolff Company said it would break ground later this year on the four-story construction, to be called Revel South Bay, Urbanize reported. It will feature studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. An address was not given.

Amenities would include a fitness center, yoga studio, salon, spa, and a saltwater pool. The project is expected to open in 2019.

The Torrance project would be one of the larger senior living developments built around the city in recent memory. Urban Commons put the wheels in motion to build a 268-unit senior living and assisted living project in Koreatown a year ago. Neurologist and developer Dr. Kyung Cho filed plans for a 132-unit senior living project in Koreatown as well.

Wolff has plenty of experience with the senior living model. It has developed dozens of senior living developments around the country, mostly in Nevada, Washington, and Colorado. The would be its first senior living project in the L.A. area.

Wolff has developed a handful of projects in Los Angeles, including the luxury mixed-use G12 and Olive DTLA projects in Downtown.

Other companies have begun further investing in senior housing in L.A. Those include Thomas Safran & Associates, which filed plans last year to add 68 affordable senior units near the company’s Montecito Apartments property in Hollywood. [Urbanize] – Dennis Lynch
