Hana Cha jumps from Compass, and returns to the Agency
The head of new development will be replaced by a former Dalian Wanda Group director
Hana Cha, who left the Agency two years ago to join Compass as managing director of new development, is returning to her former employer, The Real Deal has learned.
Now that Cha is back with the Agency, she will be replaced by Bree Long, who was sales director in Los Angeles at the China-based Dalian Wanda Group.
Compass, hot on the heels of launching in the West Coast, poached Cha from the Agency in July 2016, along with managing director Morgan Ball. The firm launched a new development division a short time later, led by senior managing director Justin D’Adamo.
At her previous stint with the Agency, Cha oversaw more than $500 million in new development deals, including the onsite sales of the Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. The Agency is now handling sales at Greenland USA’s massive $1 billion Metropolis project in Downtown, a role it took over from Douglas Elliman in September.
Long, who takes over for Cha at Compass next week, had worked on marketing and sales initiatives for Wanda projects since June. Wanda is the mega developer behind the troubled One Beverly Hills, the $1.2 billion condominium and hotel project that it listed for sale in November, after several years of delays. Much of the company’s problems stem from its home turf, where it has been seeing pushback
on many of projects as the Chinese government has scaled back on outgoing investment. The developer listed five massive projects for sale, including One Beverly Hills, valued at a total of $5 billion.
Before working at Wanda, Long held positions in operations management and sales for L.A.-based developer CIM Group.
Some of Compass’ new development projects include a 63-unit residential building Valley Glen, as well as under-construction projects in Eagle Rock, North Hollywood and Hollywood Hills East.
