Movers & Shakers: Oron Maher opens leasing and investment shop; Downtown BID gets new leader & more

John Strauss heads JLL hospitality group's investment sales and debt, Tom Wynne jumps to Wells from Morgan

Commercial broker Oron Maher has left BRC Advisors to start his own firm: Maher Commercial Realty. The company will operate out of Beverly Hills with a focus on leasing and investment sales. Maher has brought on eight agents with plans to expand over the next few months. A pair of investment sales brokers, David Bakhshi and Jeremy Shore, followed Maher from BRC Advisors. Maher spent nine years at Coldwell Banker Commercial before his year-long stint at BRC Advisors.

John Strauss has been promoted to co-lead at JLL’s Americas Hotel & Hospitality Group. Strauss will oversee investment sales, and debt and equity in the Americas with Jeffrey Davis, who ran hotel investment banking across the United States. Strauss has been with JLL for 20 years. He was previously senior managing director of the hospitality group’s L.A. division.

Carol E. Schatz, longtime CEO and president of the Downtown Center Business Improvement District, is stepping down. Suzanne Holley, who had been executive vice president and COO, will succeed her. Schatz founded the BID in 1998 and was a key driver of Downtown Los Angeles’ transformation from a neglected city center to one that now includes residential development, along with entertainment and culture offerings.

Tom Wynne has left Morgan Stanley to lead Wells Fargo Securities’ Public Finance Housing group in L.A. Wynne will focus on multifamily deals, land-secured financing and government transactions in the western U.S. At Morgan Stanley, he led business development with municipal bond issuers in the West. Wynne’s new role is part of the public finance team at Wells Fargo Securities. He will report to Stratford Shields.
